“All-inclusive” does not mean that every service at a hotel is automatically covered. The term usually combines accommodation with meals, drinks and selected facilities or activities, but the boundary between included and chargeable items depends on the property and rate. A useful comparison therefore starts with the written package—not the label alone.

Understand the main meal-plan differences

Room-only rates cover accommodation. Bed and breakfast adds breakfast, half board normally adds two daily meals, and full board normally includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. An all-inclusive rate generally goes further by adding selected drinks, snacks or activities, but there is no single universal list that applies to every hotel.

Check the board basis attached to the exact room and dates. The same hotel can sell several meal plans at once, and a lower displayed rate may not be the all-inclusive option.

Check meals, snacks and restaurant access

Ask which meals are included, where they are served and whether the package uses a buffet, set menu, credit or a combination. Speciality and à la carte restaurants may require reservations, limit the number of visits or add a supplement. Room service and private dining are commonly separate unless explicitly listed.

Also confirm snack times, late-arrival meals, children's arrangements and dietary requirements. “All meals” does not automatically mean food is available at every hour or in every venue.

Read the drinks terms carefully

Drinks can be one of the largest differences between packages. A rate may include selected soft drinks and local alcoholic beverages while excluding imported, premium, bottled or minibar items. Service may be restricted to particular bars, opening hours or a per-order limit.

Ask for the current beverage list when this affects the value of the booking. Travellers who do not drink alcohol should compare whether the package still makes sense for their dining and activity plans.

Separate facility access from paid activities

Use of a pool, gym or basic entertainment may be included, while spa treatments, motorised water sports, lessons, equipment, excursions and premium experiences remain chargeable. A hotel having a kids' club, water sports or spa does not prove that the service is part of the all-inclusive rate.

Check age limits, schedules, booking requirements and weather dependence as well as price. An activity described on the hotel website may be unavailable on particular dates or operated by a separate provider.

Confirm transfers, taxes and other exclusions

Airport transfers, local transport, tours, laundry, medical services, retail purchases and celebration arrangements should be treated as extra unless the package states otherwise. Also check whether taxes, service charges or compulsory event supplements are included in the final amount.

Request the complete price for all travellers, including children, and ask whether any inclusion begins only after check-in or ends before departure. This matters when flight times fall outside normal meal or room hours.

Decide whether all-inclusive fits your itinerary

All-inclusive can be practical when you expect to eat, relax and use activities mainly at the hotel. It may offer less value when most days involve sightseeing and meals elsewhere. Compare the price difference with your realistic plans rather than trying to consume every inclusion.
